The pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, China’s leading drugmaker and the world’s largest generic drugmaker, has received final approval from the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its drug, Viagra, to treat men with erectile dysfunction.
Viagra, the first of the new class of drugs to treat erectile dysfunction, has been the most-used treatment for the condition since its introduction in 1998.
In a press release, Pfizer said its Viagra product will be available from U. pharmacies in the form of a tablet. The product will also be available online at its most common drugstore.
Pfizer’s Viagra is the first in the new class of medicines to be approved for use in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
“This is the first treatment approved for this purpose for men with erectile dysfunction and it is the first to use Viagra,” said Pfizer Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Hank McKinnell. “With this new indication, we believe this new use of this new drug is a welcome development in order to ensure that patients continue to be able to enjoy this great potential as they continue to get their medicine.”
Pfizer’s Viagra is the only medication in the new class of medicines to have a prescription in the U. S., making it the first drug in the category to be approved for the treatment of the condition.
The FDA approves new drugs to treat erectile dysfunction as an indication for the treatment of the condition in both men and women, and Pfizer is continuing to work with other drug companies to expand and develop new products in the U. that will work to improve treatment for the condition.
The Viagra tablet will be available from Pfizer at its most common drugstore in the United States.
